I Must Be Honest Here...

Hey, Readers!

If you haven't guessed who this is, it's ProvidenceMine back with a short and sweet post.

I just need to get something off my chest.

My sister signed us up for CBS Access after the free trial,  so we were able to see the whole season of
Star Trek: Discovery.

And I hate to say it, but after the good but not great pilot episode it actually got better with each show.  Truthfully, me and my sister LOVED this latest installment of Star Trek!

I honestly didn't think I'd like it, but I think this show is the bomb!

When I buy the DVDs to the first season, I will put them on the shelf next to the Star Trek Continues DVDs.

There, I said it. Not only do I love the show, but I am looking forward to Season Two. I hope the show proves successful in spite of this sick campaign by some vitriolic fans who want to see the show fail.

I'm now a fan, of both ST:TOS and ST:DISC!

So sue me :P

They Got It Right This Time!

It's been a while, I know.

I just wanted to drop a line about that show on CBS Access called...

eh, what is it now...?

oh, yeah...

Star Trek Discovery.

Well, I just found out a few days ago that they are bringing back the character of Spock.

But, that's not the good news.

The good news is that actor Ethan Peck has been cast in the role made famous by the late actor Leonard Nimoy.

Why is this good news, you might ask.  Well, if you do a search on this young man, you will see an actor who has the look for the role.  He has refined, elegant features that are just a few notches shy from being conventionally handsome and he's tall, dark and slender.

And, guess what!

He has another feature that makes him just perfect for the role...

Can you guess what that feature is...?

It's none other than...

His voice!

Please, when you get the chance listen to him on YouTube being interviewed! His voice is deep, resonant and quite formidable!

This young man has all of the right qualities to take on this role.

I find him to be a much better pick than Zachary Quinto, quite frankly.

When I first saw Zachary Quinto in the Spock role, I had a real WTF moment to say the least!  He simply wasn't Spock as far as I was concerned.  I know that Leonard Nimoy gave Mr. Quinto his blessing, but I could never get into him in the role.  I found him funny looking, and he always pouted his lips a bit too much. He was also lacking in a particular quality that further ruined him as Spock for me. I'm sure you can guess what that quality was and still is...

The voice.  Zachary Quinto's voice was, bluntly put, unremarkable.  It was weak and way too soft in its delivery. It also lacked any distinction.  There are actors out there whose voices are not particularly deep nor resonant, but are still distinctive. Two actors that come to mind are Willem Defoe and William Petersen. Quinto's voice, sadly, is hard to describe because there is nothing to remember about it-it's like another voice in the crowd, if you will.

He also had no real screen presence.

Ethan Peck, on the other hand, has the whole package just like Leonard Nimoy did.  He has screen presence, elegance, and that voice! Considering that Mr. Peck is the grandson of actor Gregory Peck I can see where he inherited all of those qualities!

It's Rather exciting how ST:DISCO is bringing back other characters from the old canon-characters like Captain Christopher Pike, Number One-with strong casting in those two roles as well.

I truly wish Mr. Peck all of the luck in the world.
